One part of the modernization of the lighting of selected workplaces of the J\u00e1n Adam Reiman University Hospital in Pre\u0161ov\u00a0<\/a> was new LED lighting of the nurses' duty room. The nurses' service room in the inpatient part of the Trauma Surgery Department is located in the central part of the hospital monoblock. It is characterized by only minimal access to daylight. The ward supervisor's office is a glazed room with minimal natural light. It is therefore essential for the smooth performance of the nurses' work that this working space is constantly, for a full twenty-four hours, endowed with artificial lighting.<\/p>\n

Previous service room lighting<\/h3>\n

The originally installed lighting system consisted of one 600 x 600 mm main lighting fixture with 4 x 18 W neon tube lamps installed. The luminaire was located on the ceiling in the centre of the room. This basic lighting of the service room was supplemented by 3 36 W fluorescent tubes. The single tube luminaires were located above the three-piece desk behind the glazing of the room. Sporadically, the nurses on duty experienced health problems after prolonged stays in this small space. Staff discomfort was manifested by headaches, mild dizziness, eyestrain or general body fatigue. One of the probable causes of this condition was the poor technical condition of the original neon luminaires, which manifested itself in characteristic buzzing, flickering and changes in the colour of the emitted light.<\/p>\n

A new reality<\/h3>\n

New lighting in the nurses' duty room has brought about a fundamental change in the substandard condition. The installation of LED luminaires designed for the hospital environment in this important workplace for the smooth operation of the inpatient part of the traumatology department was carried out on the basis of light-technical calculations of the expert staff of the design department of the company LED - SOLAR, s.r.o..<\/p>\n

The basis for the new LED lighting was the replacement of the ceiling luminaire for daylight. The original luminaire was replaced with a 40 W LED luminaire. The designers chose a neutral white colour temperature for the daylighting. The night LED lighting in warm white was again provided by the installation of three 14 W linear luminaires. These were installed in place of the original tube luminaires.<\/p>\n

The new lighting in the nurses' duty room eliminated the negative effects of the original lighting system. The comfort of the demanding work of the nursing staff was increased and savings in operating costs were achieved. Electricity savings alone exceeded 60%.<\/p>\n
