The lighting of the beach and promenades of Lake Ohrid is part of the public lighting of the city of Ochrid. The lighting of the promenades has become part of the modernisation of the public lighting by using LED luminaires for road lighting. This work has become an important foreign business acquisition of LED-SOLAR, s.r.o.

The ancient city of Ohrid is situated on the shores of Lake Ohrid in the south-western part of Northern Macedonia. Currently, the city has more than 40,000 inhabitants. There are 365 churches and many other important cultural and historical UNESCO World Heritage List in 1980.

For a number of important reasons, Ohrid city officials decided to undertake a comprehensive renovation, which the outdated public lighting was in need of. The original lighting system consisted of many types of luminaires. The modernisation of the public lighting consisted of replacing the mainly sodium-vapour luminaires with new LED luminaires on standard lighting poles or on poles supporting overhead power lines. Furthermore, the bulbs and lamps in the historical luminaires had to be replaced with LED replacements. Another part of the reconstruction was the replacement of conventional floodlights illuminating architecture and important landmarks with directional LED luminaires.

Beach lighting - realization

The project in its entirety was implemented by the partner company HDT Impex, s.r.o.

from the Czech Republic in cooperation with local Macedonian companies in the form of a public-private partnership. The Macedonian investor took over the management of the entire public lighting of the city and covered the replacement of the luminaires with investment. On the recommendation of the Czech partner, the whole consortium decided to use LED luminaires from the Slovak production company LED-SOLAR, s.r.o. This was based on the previous good experience of HDT, s.r.o. with LED-SOLAR products.

Modernization of public lighting of traffic corridors, intersections, roads and sidewalks was carried out using highly reliable LED luminaires designed for public lighting from the LED Street SII model series. In addition to its reliability and low operating costs, the LED Street SII luminaire stands out above all for its integrated flaps for screening out parasitic light. This is of great importance in terms of traffic safety, as these LED luminaires do not dazzle motor vehicle drivers.

Public lighting and within it also the lighting of the beach and promenades in Ohrid and in the wider surroundings is nowadays using more than 10000 LED luminaires of various wattages from the Slovak manufacturer LED-SOLAR, s.r.o. to the great satisfaction of the citizens and numerous visitors.
